Mountain West eSports Showdown Las Vegas

The eSports world is really heating up. With varsity teams cropping up at universities across the United States, spectators have a front row seat in the rise of this arena. eSports are breaking into athletic tournaments in a big way. Allen Chi eagerly anticipates the second annual Mountain West eSports Showdown upcoming in 2019.

The Mountain West Conference has been a highlight of the season for college athletes for almost two decades. A staple in college sports, the Conference is a major competition for both Men’s and Women’s varsity teams. Schools involved in the competition include:
  • United States Air Force Academy
  • Boise State University
  • California State University, Fresno
  • Colorado State University
  • University of Nevada, Reno
  • University of Nevada, Las Vegas
  • University of New Mexico
  • San Diego State University 
  • San Jose State University
  • Utah State University
  • University of Wyoming
First held in 1999, the Mountain West Conference hosts competitions in 18 different sports. In 2018, the Conference introduced a whole new realm to the arena: eSports. Appropriately named the Mountain West eSports Showdown, the inception of this event has made history. Gaming Consultant, Allen Chi is excited to attend the 2019 Showdown in support of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas’s Console Cowboys team.

While a date has yet to be set, the event is slated to take place in Las Vegas. The Mountain West eSports Showdown will broadcast live on cable television and Twitch.tv. eSports teams will compete in matches centered around the following games:
  • League of Legends
  • Rocket League
  • Overwatch
Teams from Boise State and UNLV were the first to participate in this history-making event last year. But the organizers of the event hope to open the competition up to more schools as time goes on. Gamers eagerly await the next Mountain West eSports Showdown. Las Vegas native, Allen Chi, is proud to say that he attended the 2018 Showdown and hopes to cheer on the Console Cowboys as they continue to make history in the world of gaming.
